COMPETITIVE AGE GROUP SWIMMING
The Steiner Youth Aquatics Club (SYAC) was created to provide the youth of the Salt Lake Valley with a year round competitive swim experience. Swimmers learn the importance of dedication, commitment, perseverance and team spirit. Competitive swimming is an excellent way for children to get in shape. It teaches time management, goal setting, self-esteem, and improves concentration and focus. SYAC provides coaching for all levels of swimming ability.
Entry Level Swimmers (Development Team) Sea Stars
Swimmers are taught how to work with coaches, lap swim with a focus on stroke and turn and start mechanics. Swimmers should know how to swim the freestyle and backstroke. The breaststroke and butterfly will be developed. There are three practices provided during the week lasting one hour each (M-W-F). Swimmers ages range: 5 to 13
Developing Level Swimmers – Angel Fish
Swimmers continue the work that was started in Sea Stars. Swimmers at this level are increasing their stamina and refining their breast and fly strokes. There continue to be three practices each week lasting 1.5 hours each (M-W-F). Swimmers age range: 5 to 13
Beginning Level Competitive Swimmers -Dolphins
Swimmers should be able to compete in all 4 strokes and execute legal turns. They should be able to do a 200 I.M. This group works on stroke mechanics and practice etiquette. Improved work ethic will be developed. Swimmers learn about time standards and work towards attaining Age Group State championship qualifying times. Swimmers are encouraged to attend scheduled swim meets. There are five practices provided during the week (M-F) for 1.5 hours a training session. Dry land training is incorporated in the 1.5 hour session. Swimmers ages range: 8 and up.
Mid Level Competitive Swimmers- Threshers
Swimmers should be able to do a legal 400 IM. This group will realize that performance is related to attendance and work ethic. Swimmers continue work on stroke mechanics and learn about and use stroke rates. Swimmers learn race strategy. They are able to do a 30-minute continuous swim. This group will work on moving from competing in Age Group State Championship towards Far Western and Western Zone competition. There are five practices provided during the week (M – F) for 1.5 hours a training session. Dryland training is incorporated in the 1.5 hour session. Swimmers ages range: 11 to 17.
Upper Level Competitive Swimmers-SunFish
Swimmers at this elite level have a strong work ethic and are responsible for their attendance. This group will be working towards attending regional senior level competition and beyond. There are six practices provided during the week (M – S) for 2 hours a training session. Dryland training is incorporated in the 2 hour session. Swimmers ages range: 12 and up.
Summer High School or Senior Group
Swimmers in this group are typically High School Swimmers that want to continue their training through the summer. This group pays a one time summer fee for three-four months. Swimmers will be incorporated into the existing swim groups based on level.

U.S. SWIM REGISTRATION
$65.00/year
Swimmers must register with U.S. swimming within the first 30 days of joining the team. U.S. Swimming information and forms are incorporated into the online Registration.

The multi-swimmer discount is 20% for the 2nd and 30% for the third swimmer and over (deductions are made to the lowest cost swim group)
Coaches are responsible for assigning swim groups according to the swimmers skills and abilities.
Lane assignments may vary by number of swimmers each day and will be at the coaches’ discretion. In other words, kids from different groups may swim together to make sure that we keep pool costs in line and swimmers are progressing as they should.
